12/14/08-The Luiz Palhares seminar was great. Professor Palhares demonstrated some great technique for self defense and grappling. Scroll through the pics above. Congratulations to Dave McMaster on getting his black belt in BJJ. Dave has studied for 11 years. I felt for him when he had to make 5 trips through the gauntlet. Haha, well worth it though.

12/11/08-We are making routine trips to E-Town to study with those guys. They do a wonderful class, and above all the competition is unreal. It is important that everyone wanting to improve in their BJJ go to as many classes as possible at the E-Town school.
Now open at our new location!! We have a top notch training facility in Hazard beside of the Peking Chinese restaraunt right off of Taxi Alley at Main Street. The new place is huge with plenty of room for large practices. There is also plenty of parking.

12/16/08- Hazard Martial Arts Club T-Shirt order is being taken right now. $15.00 per shirt. Also we have car stickers with the new logo on them. I was really happy with the way they turned out. Thanks to Martin Sign Company here in Hazard for making them. These are $10.00 per sticker. The money from the shirts and stickers will be put towards mats and other items that we need in the school. Also, everyone needs to take part in regular cleaning of the school. The mats should be mopped after every practice, garbage collected, etc... We appreciate everyone helping out, and remember, its your club.
12/16/08- Just a reminder that everyone needs to keep working on basics. You will never reach a point when this shouldn't be a part of your training. For all of the guys wanting to fight you need to attend Jiu Jitsu on a regular basis. I assure you that your ground game will catch up to you sooner or later. Its better to be safe than sorry if you are planning on fighting MMA. We are fortunate to have some of the best BJJ in the state flowing through our gym so take advantage of it.

1/26/09-The new seamless floor turned out great. Thanks to all of those who helped with the installation. Also, a big thanks to Jimmy Lewis from Lewis construction for donating the padding used in the underlayment.
2/1/09- Pics taken from the BJJ skills seminar with BJJ black belt Josh Johnson. This was probably the best seminar we have had with Josh.
2/21/09- Donald Neace, one of the first Jiu Jitsu students at Hazard Martial Arts Club finished 1st in the Hayastan Grappling Challenge. He won two rounds vs. a 4seasons BJJ blue belt. 4Seasons is one of the premier BJJ schools in Kentucky and are known for their excellence. It is simply an honor to compete with them. Congratulations to Donald for his commitment and dedication to the martial arts.
4/16/09-We will be having another BJJ seminar with our instructor Josh Johnson on May 3rd, 2009. The seminar will be at 12:00noon on that Sunday. Everyone is encouraged to attend, and as always, it will be packed full of great technique. Cost will be $50 per participant. Come out and support our BJJ program!
5/3/09-These were from our BJJ clinic with Josh Johnson. This was a great skills seminar that introduced tons of body mechanic and positioning drills into our system. First blue belt promotion was granted in our club, as well as multiple stripe promotions. We will have more to follow shortly if the work ethic continues. Remember guys, the mat doesn't lie, and it tells all as well. If you come to class you learn and progress, if you don't you fall off the wagon, plain and simple.
7/6/09- Josh Johnson from E-Town will be conducting a skills seminar on July 26, 2009. I also expect some stripe promotions for some of our dedicated white belt students.
Also, Jon is now teaching a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class at Pikeville Alternative Martial Arts Club in Pikeville, Ky every other Monday night. All students at our club should go roll with those guys as often as possible, they have great skills.
5/18/09-Local Karate legend Roger Holland is now dedicating one night per week to teach kickboxing at our gym. His meets are on Thursday nights from 6-8PM. No uniform is required. Full contact sparring is part of his classes so be ready to take a hit. Headgear, mouthpiece, groin cup and all other gear is required.
I am glad to announce that we should be starting a new self defense course for women called "Street Smart". This course will be built around basic kickboxing and BJJ for women's self defense. Also, we are looking to form a solid kids program so if you know anyone interested put the word out. I am going to do a class for small children ages 4-7 called F.O.C.U.S., which will teach fundamentals. There will a separate class for kids 8-14 once we get the numbers up.
Just a reminder that there will be Luiz Palhares seminar at the E-Town school on June 14th, 2009. Price and time to be announced when available.
12/16/09-Team 1 Alliance head instructor Josh Johnson will be at our school in Hazard on 1/3/10 to conduct a BJJ seminar. We will also be having some rank promotions, and Sam Hall will recieve his blue belt-this marks the first student at our club to recieve the blue belt in BJJ.

June 2010
Luiz Palhares has accepted HMAC into his association. This is a great achievement for the club, and would not be possible without the support of Josh Johnson. Thanks to both for letting us be a part of such fine groups.
