Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are structured in a way that provides exercise along with the self defense instructional portion. For your first few classes you should wear something comfortable, such as shorts, t-shirt, or underarmor type apparel. After your first week you can then purchase your BJJ/Judo style gi, which will be worn for the gi portions of the classes. At first the workout will be very difficult, but take ease in knowing that this is completely normal. Your body has to become accustomed to the new physical challenges involved in mat work. Blisters, mat burn, and sore muscles can be expected during your first few weeks. And expect to sweat like you have never sweat before.
BJJ and MMA are also great for weight loss and cardio enhancement. You will develop functional strength as well. This can be applied to work, school, and family life.
You will learn a core curriculum that is specific for self defense and personal protection.
