Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan
Tae Kwon Do is a martial art that consists of kicking, striking, and sparring techniques that make it an ideal martial art for practical self defense. Although Tae Kwon Do originated from the Korean peninsula in the early 1900's, its roots can be traced back thousands of years to the period of the Hwa Rang warrior class, which were the Korean equivilent of the Japanese Samurai. Tae Kwon Do originally consisted of several schools before uniting under the collective name Tae Kwon Do in the mid to late 1900's. Chung Do Kwan was one of the first of the orginal schools of Tae Kwon Do, and was founded by Shotakan Karate expert Won Kuk Lee. Grandmaster Lee was a black belt in Japanese Shotakan, directly under Shotokan founder Gichin Funokashi. Other notables such Granmaster Choi-Hong Hi, the father of modern Tae Kwon Do, influenced the development of the art as we know it today.
